Last Saturday was the first day our farmstand opened this season. We had done some work on it the previous week … added a few new tables, some “decorations” and, as Jennifer says, just made it feel a lot more permanent. Last summer, the farmstand was nice enough, but the one back room was just a catch-all storage area while the other back room was empty. It just seemed unfinished. We hadn’t really decided what to do with all the space, so we did nothing with a good bit of it.
Our friends and neighbors, Larry (he took the pictures for “giving thanks and spreading sunshine”) and Sue, had given us a beautiful 8 foot section of butcher-block table. It had leaned against the wall in the catch-all room all last summer. We cut it into two, 2-foot pieces and one, 4-foot piece. The 2-foot pieces made really nice 2-person tables that are attached to the wall next to our sampling counter. The 4-foot piece made for a nice stand-up table in the center of the granary, just south of the elevator leg … that table has the nicest view. We moved our two round tables into the two back rooms. So we now have seating for fourteen (expandable to 18 or 20). We have a more suitable handwashing station and closet to store our cutting boards, knives, etc.
We’ve added a small selection of beverages … sorry, no wine, you’ll still have to bring your own. And just like last year, we have fresh baked bread from Crumb Brothers’ Artisan Bakery, honey and eggs and a few other items from fellow Richmondites and handcrafted soap from Cherry Creek Soap Company.
We invite any and all to come visit us. We are open each Saturday from 11 to 4 through at least October. Visit our Contact Us page for details on how to find us.
