Taya’s Fun

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Our new dog is settling in well. She is learning to like the cows. She’s playing well with our neighbor’s and friends’ dogs. And, oh yeah, she kind of likes helping get the irrigation going in the pastures. It’s great to have a companion to help with the chores. — PS

We locked the sheep up for a bit and let Taya have some fun.

After helping me bring in the cows, she keeps an eye on the milking.

At the end of a long day of work and play, a little relaxation is due.

Oh what a great week!

What a week of renewal it has been here at Rockhill. We had the Vet come and preg check our cows on Monday, and Hank, the bull has done is job with Ione. She will be having her first calf in March of next year. He has proven himself and thus will stay on the job for a while longer.

And on Tuesday, Iggy gave birth to twin girls … two beautiful, and BIG heifer calves. No wonder she was so huge. Mom and babies are doing great. We are looking for names for the two little cuties. We usually stick with either the same first letter as the mom, or the next in the alphabet. Ingrid is Iggy’s mom, Greta is Heide’s mom … you get the idea. So, if anyone has some suggestions please either leave a comment or email us. We’ll keep you updated on what we settle on.

See, I told you they were big!

A proud mom and her babies.

A kitten found a warm place to curl up—now that’s cute!

Then, on Wednesday, we drove to South Jordan and picked up our new dog. Taya (we changed the spelling from Tahia — too hard for me to remember how to pronounce it) is a five-year-old border collie. Her family loved her, but, as anyone who has had a border collie can attest, she was a bit too much for their suburban life. She has really taken to us and our place. She’ll be on a leash for quite a while, just to be on the safe side, but she is already showing some confidence around the cows, and enjoys the irrigation canal to no end.

Taya, the newest arrival at Rockhill.

For those who didn’t know, we lost our dog of 15 years, a border collie named Zoe, this spring. So this is really a great week for me.—PS
